Guild of Masters - a simulation game based on situational management theory. The game supports the process of delegating tasks, encourages taking initiative and cooperation within the management team.
Guild of Masters is a training game whose main goal is to develop managerial competences. It will be suitable for younger management staff, but will also support more experienced team leaders. The game's assumptions are based, among others, on the theory of situational management developed by Paul Hersey and Ken Blanchard. This is one of the most popular leadership models. Its foundation is the thesis that the success of an organization largely depends on whether the manager is able to adapt the employee management model to the situation in which his subordinates currently find themselves. This requires knowing its good and weaker sides, as well as determining individual needs.

Universal plot:
Game participants should direct the work of journeymen in such a way as to complete as many orders as possible and achieve specific goals. The Guild of Masters consists of several workshops with different characteristics, and each of them employs two journeymen. The game participants are faced with a task similar to the one they face every day at work: they must appropriately match the type of task to the person who is to perform it. Each journeyman has different competences, awareness and talents. Tasks differ in terms of deadline, method of completion, and points that can be earned for completing them.
The higher the competences of the manager, the better the work results (a journeyman with low competences can be excellently guided through the process of performing a task, and thus increase his awareness and competences; at the same time, even a highly qualified journeyman may become discouraged or frustrated if the master uses inappropriate management model). The secret lies in recognizing this changing situation and being able to make appropriate decisions. The Masters Guild simulation game is a great way to get a better look at this mechanics in a safe training environment.
Guild of Masters - conscious management and teamwork
Game participants divided into teams must make decisions together to achieve the goals set at the beginning of the round. Each workshop earns its own points, but the ultimate success of the Guild cannot be achieved without cooperation between workshops. In addition to orders performed for merchants, journeymen can also produce improvement items (thanks to which they will be able to support and speed up the work of other workshops). The common task of the Guild is also to implement edicts - this task requires improving the method of communication between teams. This is an interesting example of achieving organizational goals, managerial cooperation, sharing common tasks or influencing other managers. It is planned so that players notice and experience the areas of interest, influence and control over the development situation of their subordinates. It turns out that many young managers find it difficult to distinguish one from the other, which may result in inappropriate targeting of activities. The game also presents the problem of loneliness among team leaders, showing that in order to achieve the organization's goals, it is necessary not only to identify with the team you manage, but also to cooperate with other managers.
When is it worth to apply this training game?
Guild of Masters will be a great training tool to support the development of leadership competencies. It will contribute to increasing the awareness of especially beginner team leaders. Entertainment will also be a starting point for reflection for leaders with more experience. The game will also support building relationships between managerial staff.
